Endurance & Expectancy: A Sunday Reflection

There are two words that have been echoing in my spirit this week: endurance and expectancy. At first, they may seem like opposites—one feels like holding on, the other like reaching forward. But together, they create a powerful rhythm of faith and movement.

Endurance: God is Holding On Until You Move

Endurance is not about sitting still in defeat or waiting for something to magically happen. It is the quiet strength of knowing that God has not let go of you. He is sustaining you in the in-between seasons.

Think of it like standing at a crossroads: you may not know which way to turn, but

endurance is the assurance that you are not standing there alone. God’s grip on you is steady. He is holding on until you are ready to take that first step forward.

We all face times when it feels easier to stay put than to move. Fear, uncertainty, and even comfort can hold us back. Yet endurance reminds us: God doesn’t let us fall while we are gathering courage. He holds us steady so we can rise when the time is right.

Expectancy: God Believes You’re Moving and Is Preparing for It

If endurance is God’s holding pattern, then expectancy is His forward motion. Expectancy is living with the belief that something good is already on its way. It’s not passive waiting—it’s preparation. When you live with expectancy, you’re setting the table before the guests arrive. You’re preparing the space before the blessing shows up. You’re dressing in confidence, walking with intention, and believing that God is already orchestrating the details of what’s next.

Expectancy is not “if,” it’s “when.” It’s believing so strongly in the movement of God that you align your actions as though the door has already opened.

Living Between Endurance and Expectancy

The beauty of life is that we are often called to live in the tension of both. Endurance keeps us grounded, while expectancy keeps us moving.

Endurance whispers: Hold on. God hasn’t left you.

Expectancy declares: Get ready. God is already preparing the way.

This rhythm applies not only to our faith but to how we live daily. In our careers, our relationships, and even in the way we carry ourselves, endurance gives us stability, while expectancy propels us into new opportunities.

Sometimes, it looks like showing up in simplicity—choosing to “keep it simple” when life feels heavy. Other times, it looks like boldness—wearing your “never give up” spirit like a pearl crown, knowing you are made for more.

This Week’s Encouragement:

As you step into this new week, hold both truths close:

In your endurance, trust that God is holding you steady.

In your expectancy, prepare as though the blessing is already unfolding.

It’s not one or the other—it’s both. Endurance keeps you from giving up, and expectancy keeps you reaching forward.

So rise with grace, adorn yourself with courage, and move into the week knowing that God is both holding you and preparing for you.

Endurance is faith holding on. Expectancy is faith moving forward. May your week reflect both.
